Bareilly Medtech Incubation & Innovation Labs Foundation (BMIIL) successfully organized an innovative Inter-University Ideathon, bringing together talented pharmacy students from Varun Arjun University and Bareilly International University (BIU). Five teams from each institution participated in what was termed the “Random Card Collision Ideathon” — the first inter-university ideathon of its kind between the two universities.
The event was designed to challenge conventional thinking and encourage students to develop innovative solutions beyond the boundaries of their academic curriculum. Each participating team was required to draw two random cards: one featuring a real-world pharmacy-related problem and the other containing a completely unrelated everyday object. Teams were then tasked with creating a practical and meaningful solution that effectively integrated both elements.
The unconventional format initially left many participants puzzled as they attempted to understand how seemingly unrelated concepts could be connected. During the first phase of the competition, teams spent considerable time brainstorming and exploring possibilities. However, as discussions progressed, confusion gradually transformed into enthusiasm, collaboration, and creative problem-solving.
The ideathon produced a range of innovative concepts, with several ideas demonstrating significant potential for further development. Beyond the quality of the solutions presented, the event stood out for the remarkable energy and engagement displayed by participants. Audience members actively participated throughout the pitching sessions, asking insightful questions and contributing to vibrant discussions until the conclusion of the event.
As announced during the competition, the two winning teams will be formally felicitated during the inauguration ceremony of the upcoming Incubation Centre, recognizing their outstanding creativity and innovation.
The event reinforced an important message: creative thinking is not an innate talent possessed by only a few individuals. Rather, it emerges when students are provided with the right environment, challenges, and opportunities to think independently. The ideathon demonstrated that innovation flourishes when learners are encouraged to move beyond rote learning, embrace uncertainty, and develop original solutions under real-world constraints.
Encouraged by the success of this initiative, BMIIL is already planning future editions featuring cross-disciplinary teams, participation from multiple institutions, and even more challenging innovation exercises. The ideathon serves as a testament to the untapped creative potential of students and highlights the importance of experiential learning in fostering the next generation of innovators.
