Innovation begins with observation—and that belief came to life during a unique collaborative initiative between Bareilly MedTech Incubation & Innovation Labs and the RBMI Group of Institutions.
Following the successful keynote address at “The Innovation Nexus: MedTech Startups, Robotics & Edge Intelligence”, organized by the RBMI Group of Institutions Engineering College, students were encouraged to look beyond classrooms and laboratories to discover real-world engineering challenges within a healthcare environment.
Accepting this challenge, a group of eleven engineering students visited Rohilkhand Medical College & Hospital on 27th June for an immersive observational experience. Guided by one of the hospital’s doctors, the students explored various hospital departments, wards, and operational areas to identify practical problems that could be addressed through technology and innovation.
The hospital visit was followed by an interactive innovation workshop held in the conference room. Each student was asked to document at least three engineering challenges observed during the visit, resulting in nearly twenty practical problem statements within a short span of time.
The students were then divided into teams of four, four, and three members. Each team was given 20 minutes to:
Analyze the collected observations.
Identify the single most impactful problem.
Develop a technology-driven solution to address the identified challenge.
The exercise transformed a routine hospital visit into a dynamic innovation session. The solutions proposed by the students were practical, thoughtful, and demonstrated a strong inclination toward Artificial Intelligence (AI) and emerging healthcare technologies.
More importantly, the experience reinforced a valuable lesson: innovation is born from careful observation of real-world challenges rather than confined to laboratories alone.
The initiative also sparked significant enthusiasm among the participating students, all of whom expressed interest in continuing their engagement with the Bareilly MedTech Incubation & Innovation Labs Foundation (BMIIL).
