Every movement begins with a spark. For Bareilly Medtech Incubation & Innovation Labs (BMIIL), that spark was lit over a decade ago in Innsbruck, Austria, during a spine surgery training program co-organized by Mr. Claudius Lazarus and his business partner. Among the participants was Dr. Varun Agarwal from Rohilkhand Medical College, a young surgeon eager to make spinal surgery safer through innovation
Over shared discussions, one question took root:
Why do we import almost 90% of all medical devices in India? Why not create an ecosystem of medical innovation in India?
Years later, when Mr. Lazarus visited Bareilly, he saw immense potential. Yet, as destiny would have it, the vision had to wait — until now.
In September 2025, Bareilly International University embraced the idea with open arms, giving rise to BMIIL — a bridge between modern medtech and ancient Ayurvedic wisdom.
What began as a conversation in the Alps has become a mission to transform healthcare innovation from the heart of India, empowering young minds from Tier-2 cities to build solutions for the world.
